Sapsu Khola Hydropower Project: Using water by emptying the river
Khotang. It has been found that the 6.6 MW capacity of Sapsu Khola hydropower project in Khotang uses water after drying it. In the course of generating electricity from the Sapsu River in Halesi Tuwachung Municipality-11 Rajapani, it has been found that the project's promotion company, Threestar Hydropower Company Limited, is using water by drying up the entire river.

Suryaprasad Sedai, the chief district officer of Khotang, said that at least 10 percent of the water should be released into the river.

A dam has been constructed on the Sapsu river at Basuwa in Rajapani for the hydroelectric project. The electricity produced by the hydroelectric project, which started trial production on 14th November 2018, was connected to the national transmission line in December 2018.
There is a risk of human and animal drowning as no fences have been installed around the descenders, canals and water storage reservoirs of the hydropower project. Since there is no fence around it, people and animals can easily go to the reservoir and swim, so it has become like a dam.

Pragya Sedai has given a direction to Pradeep Dahal, the project in-charge of the company, to complete the gherwara around the reservoir within 15 days. It has been asked to arrange life jackets for rescue if people and animals fall into the reserve and to keep trained rescue personnel on standby.

Apart from this, when the gate valve is opened between the dam and the powerhouse, instructions have been given to arrange a 'siren' to give advance information to protect the locals from water falling into the river, Prajia Sedai said. Project in-charge Dahal accepted the weakness and replied that he would complete the unfinished work.
