"The track opening work for the Kimathanka road connecting three countries has been completed"

The track opening work for the Jogbani-Kimathanka road, a national pride project under construction in Sankhuwasabha, which will be the shortest route connecting neighboring countries China and India, has been completed. With the completion of the 10.5-kilometer track opening from Chyamthang to Ghonggoppa in the northern region, Nepal will now be connected to both China and India.

Chief Engineer Ram Bahadur Gurung of the North-South Koshi Road Project has informed that the breakthrough of the national pride project, the Jogbani-Kimathanka road, will take place on Monday, Magh 14. After the breakthrough, the trilateral link road will connect China, India, and Nepal. The Nepalese Army is carrying out the track opening work for the approximately 10.5-kilometer section from Chyamthang to Ghonggoppa.

For the breakthrough event, Defense Minister Manbir Rai, Physical Infrastructure Minister Devendra Dahal, and Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation Minister Deepak Khadka will visit Sankhuwasabha on Magh 14, according to Chief Engineer Gurung of the North-South Koshi Road Project.

The Nepalese Army is carrying out the track opening work for the approximately 10.5-kilometer section from Chyamthang to Ghonggoppa in Bhotkhola Rural Municipality. As the work required explosives to break through hard rock formations, the Cabinet meeting on Bhadra 22, 2076 (September 8, 2019) assigned the army the responsibility of constructing the road.

Out of the 162-kilometer-long Khandbari-Kimathanka road, the Nepalese Army was tasked with opening approximately 10.5 kilometers of the track.

For the construction of this road, 140 workers are deployed daily. The road project has reported that the 10.5-kilometer section from Chyamthang to Ghonggoppa under the Khandbari-Kimathanka highway has already been carved through cliffs.

This road will directly benefit residents of Koshi Province, including those from Dhankuta, Tehrathum, Sankhuwasabha, and Bhojpur. Although the track has been opened up to Chyamthang, vehicles can currently operate only during the winter on the section from Khandbari to Barun Dobhan. With the expansion of the road, activity in the area has increased.

Locals are also demanding the establishment of a customs office at the border along with the road. So far, over NPR 530 million has been spent on the national pride Khandbari-Kimathanka road project.
